Bio Balance by BC Garn - the best blend yarn for transitional seasons
Bio Balance - the perfect balance between the finest cotton and the best wool: the best of both worlds!
You can use Bio Balance by BC Garn for almost any project and you will always make the right choice. It is neither too thick nor too thin; the wool makes it wonderfully fluffy and light, while the cotton is soft and cooling. Bio Balance has a pleasantly understated matte finish and the most beautiful natural colors - simply perfect.
The cotton in Bio Balance is especially soft, making the yarn particularly cozy. The wool comes from mulesing-free farms in South America. The yarn is GOTS certified and produced with particular care, sustainably and organically!
What makes Bio Balance GOTS special?
Do you enjoy wearing your knitted pieces at home or in the office and prefer not to feel too warm? Then Bio Balance is just right. It drapes beautifully, feels soft against the skin, and is still not too warm, very airy and light. It is also beautifully fine, so Bio Balance creates wonderfully delicate knitted pieces that will accompany you for a long time.
Of course, Bio Balance is of the finest quality and also sustainable, of impeccable origin, and GOTS certified - leaving nothing to be desired.
The color palette is huge and wonderfully harmonious. The colors are perfectly coordinated. Because wool and cotton absorb the shades differently, a subtle mélange effect is created, which particularly enhances the depth of color. Bio Balance is also a beautifully matte yarn for everyday, delicate and understated pieces.
I particularly love its versatility. You can knit sweaters, cardigans and tops with it just as well as shawls and scarves. Bio Balance is even especially suitable for baby clothes; it feels very pleasant directly against the skin and is particularly gentle. Simply a dream yarn!
It is wonderfully easy to work with, knits up easily and is not too smooth, so nothing slips and everything stays in place. It simply feels good from the very first stitch!

What can you combine Bio Balance with?
Bio Balance has a sister yarn: its big sister Big Bio Balance is twice as thick and has the same color palette. This means you can combine both yarns wonderfully and create coordinated knitted pieces.
Of course, you can also add extra fluff to Bio Balance by using a mohair yarn as a carry-along thread. The beautiful Silky Kid by Kremke Soul Wool is especially suitable here; the colors harmonize beautifully.
But Bio Balance is often knitted on its own. Its composition is already carefully designed, so it does not need any additional yarns and stands beautifully on its own. The idea is also to simplify things by using one good yarn. Excellent wearing comfort for warmer temperatures, lightweight clothing that feels wonderful and looks great!
What is Bio Balance made of?
Bio Balance GOTS by BC Garn consists of 55% virgin wool and 45% cotton, making it ideal for spring and summer as well as for winter and autumn under a jacket or indoors. A true all-round talent! The composition is wonderfully natural, with no artificial additives - a truly organic yarn. With GOTS certification, nothing is left to be desired.
The virgin wool comes from mulesing-free farms in South America, while the cotton is especially soft and lightweight, providing excellent comfort even directly against the skin.
Bio Balance combines these outstanding qualities:
-
soft and beautiful, even directly against the skin
-
temperature-regulating
-
breathable and airy
-
perfect for garments worn at room temperature
-
also suitable for baby skin
-
sustainable and organic
What does Bio Balance by BC Garn feel like?
Bio Balance is incredibly popular, of course because of its excellent qualities and wonderful colors, but mainly because it simply feels so good! You will love it. It feels wonderfully airy and light while remaining soft without being overly drapey. It combines the best qualities and is not as heavy as cotton yarns or as thick as wool. Bio Balance is a clever blend of both worlds: it keeps you warm - but not too warm; it is light and cooling - but not too thin.
Bio Balance is simply one of my favorite yarns, and I hope you will love it too.
Stitch definition
Because of its wool and cotton composition, Bio Balance has a subtle mélange effect. It is very understated, but creates beautiful depth of color and adds movement to the stitch pattern. The yarn should not be knitted too tightly so that it can fully develop its positive qualities, such as its fluffiness and softness. This creates a beautiful, even knitted fabric with the handmade touch we all love!

Color chart
BC Garn is already known for its carefully developed, wonderfully harmonious and extensive color palette of around 30 colors. Bio Balance has wonderfully harmonious colors, and they are all truly coordinated, so you can combine them beautifully. One special feature of Bio Balance's colors is their matte quality. The yarn is matte and soft, so the colors look wonderfully natural. The colors also have a beautifully subtle mélange effect because wool and cotton absorb the dye differently. This effect is very light and understated, but creates wonderful depth of color and gives especially interesting stitch definition to smooth-knit pieces and beautiful depth to textured patterns. Simply enchanting!
What can you knit with it?
We have many knitted pieces in our Patterns and Sets category featuring Bio Balance by BC Garn. As an all-round yarn, you can use it for lightweight sweaters and cardigans, but of course you can also knit shawls and scarves. Bio Balance is even wonderfully suitable for baby clothes. I especially love knitting tops with it because it feels so good directly against the skin.
How should the yarn be washed?
We have had good experiences with Bio Balance when it comes to machine washing. The yarn is washable at 30°C, but only if your machine has a wool cycle. And of course you must use wool detergent; under no circumstances should you use fabric softener - this is very important!
Otherwise, we recommend hand washing, which is gentler and not much work. Simply fill the sink with water and wool detergent and place the knitted piece in it. Then rinse it out. It is especially helpful to spin the knitted piece in the washing machine afterward, because wringing it out can often cause unintended damage.
Even when hand washing, the temperature should not exceed 30°C, and good wool detergent is essential here as well.
Of course, the knitted piece must not go in the dryer. We always recommend drying it flat, out of direct sunlight, preferably indoors or in the shade.
If you follow these simple rules, the yarn will last a long time without any problems.
How does Bio Balance differ from Big Bio Balance?
As the name suggests, Big Bio Balance is simply bigger, meaning thicker. Bio Balance is about half as thick as its big sister and has a yardage of 225m per 50g, while Big Bio Balance has 280m in a 100g skein. This is very practical, so you do not have to give up your favorite Bio Balance composition in winter. And of course, you can also use Big Bio Balance for spring clothing when you want a somewhat thicker fabric or want to knit it up more quickly.
What needle size do you need?
You should not knit Bio Balance too tightly. Needle size is very individual, depending on your personal knitting tension. We recommend choosing a needle size of about 3 mm to 4 mm. It is best to knit a gauge swatch to determine the perfect size for you! The most beautiful pieces are soft and drapey; because the yarn is so light, it does not stretch out and retains its shape.
