Knit sweater from the top
Top down, i.e. knitting a sweater from top to bottom, is the most popular knitting direction. The reasons are obvious: you have to cast on fewer stitches and you can simply try the sweater on as you go.
This way you can easily determine the right length for you. Most sweaters from Scandinavia are now knitted from top to bottom.
